On Thursday 28th November, The Buckland Rugby team welcomed Ashford C of E for a friendly match before the league begins.

With the majority of the team from last year moving on to secondary school there was a lot of children making their first appearances for Buckland and they did not disappoint.

Buckland definitely had pace and agility on their side with Sam weaving his way through the Ashford defence for the first  try of the game. Ashford quickly responded with a try of their own.

However, Buckland quickly found their groove and took advantage of Ashford’s inexperience. Joe, Max and Jess all scoring tries in the first half.

In the second half Ashford performed a lot better, having got a nervous first half out the way, they were more confident and scored 7 tries in the second period. Buckland however were unstoppable, Ella was always on hand to score tries. Her final tally was 9 tries matching that of the entire Ashford C of E team.  There was also a debut try for Georgia, Lucy and Thomas.

The final score: Buckland 93 – 32 Ashford Park

A fantastic first match for the rugby team and for those making their debut. We look forward to more fixtures involving this exciting team.
