Dear parents/carers,

Re: Coronavirus update – school closure to most pupils

Following on from my last update, I’m now writing to let you know that we have now been instructed to close the school to almost all children this Friday, March 20th until further notice. As advised by the government, we will do all we can to stay open for the children of key workers (e.g. NHS staff, police, others in frontline services) and children with certain needs – further information to follow.

We are waiting for the government to publish more information on what this means, but it would help us in the meantime if you could let us know if you think your child may fall into one of these categories.

  • Contact the school office
  • Give the name of your child/ren and their class
  • Details of your key worker role
  • Whether you will need your child to be in school

We will be in touch again as soon as we are sure who this does apply to and what the next steps are.

All other children will need to stay at home, so we ask that you do not send your child into school from Monday onwards. Please note that this is a national closure – as you may have heard in the news – so while it is a challenging situation, we are not alone. We will re-open fully as soon as we can and will let you know when this is by via Parentmail so again please ensure we have your correct contact information.

What we will continue doing while your child is at home?

Your child’s learning is of course important to us, so we’ll continue to help your child to learn.

  • Home Learning packs for the first week(s) are being sent home today
  • Weekly emails will be sent with new learning for the following week – via Parentmail
  • Weekly bulletins from the Headteacher
  • Links on the school website under home learning
  • No home learning will be marked by school it will be for parents to monitor.

The usual email address applies info@bucklandprimary.surrey.sch.uk and will be periodically monitored as a means to contact the school. Please remember, this is for non-emergency messages and will be forwarded to the relevant staff members. Teachers cannot be emailed directly. Families will be kept updated via Parentmail and MarvellousMe as well as via weekly bulletins and the school’s website.

If your child usually receives free school meals we will also be in touch with more information about how we will continue to provide this, with support from a scheme that the government has just announced.

Due to the closure of the school any trips, residentials and school events will be taken on a case by case basis and may well be postponed or cancelled. We will communicate with specific year groups at a later date.

This is as much as we know right now and we appreciate your continued patience with as we deal with this ever-changing situation. We understand that this latest news will have an impact on you and your family and it’s far from ideal, but we’ll continue to keep in touch with any updates as the situation develops. We will endeavour to answer your questions over the next couple of days and beyond.

Remember: if you or your child or a family member feels ill and you want to know what to do next, please use NHS 111 online or call the free Department of Education helpline number: 0800 046 8687

Thank you again for your continued support, kind words, and offers of support. Your generosity of spirit and sense of community belonging is truly inspiring.

We will be in touch with more information when we can.

Best wishes,

Rebecca Hutton and the Buckland team
