Award for Outstanding Anti-Bullying Practice

Dear parents and carers,

Ms Wales and all the staff at Buckland Primary School are proud to announce that we have received the Surrey Anti-bullying Charter Mark GOLD Award!

The Charter Mark is awarded when a school meets the criteria in the bronze, silver or gold categories; these cover issues related to whole school involvement, policy, student support, curriculum and training. External assessor visited the school in late July from the Local Authority.

Some highlights from the report were:

  • The school values are embedded throughout, and there was a clear sense of safety and happiness.
  • The display boards and paintings across the school showed the importance of your BEST vision, and your sense of community and family was felt throughout.
  • Your Marvellous Me App and the new transition programme were two other highlights and examples of excellent practice.
  • The pupils interviewed are a credit to the school, with their friendliness, knowledge and passion around Anti-Bullying. They had a clear idea of what to do when and how they support one another.

Our anti-bullying, PSHE and RSHE co-ordinator is Ms Wales. We host anti-bullying events throughout the year including Anti-bullying week and E-safety week which involve assemblies, drama workshops and age appropriate lessons.

Playground activities and lunchtime clubs are set up to support friendships across the school. Children have access to a range of resources in the playground which cater for different interests. We are also developing our reading house in the KS2 playground. Playground ‘Buddies’ also support children across the school. Look out for our Friendship Ambassador display in school.  Here you find information and examples of children’s literature on anti-bullying.
