The curriculum at Buckland is planned to excite and engage our learners. Our curriculum is full of opportunities for our pupils to be involved in hands on experience as a natural part of their learning. For example, activities such as re-enacting historical events, doing fieldwork in geography, hot seating (taking the part of a character in a book or story) in English or using models and images to support problem solving in Maths. All children’s work and progress is assessed regularly and this information is used to set challenging targets and improve achievement. Children are also encouraged to assess themselves so that they can identify the next steps in their learning. Reading and Writing supports the acquisition of knowledge. Children are taught to read fluently, understand extended prose and are encouraged to read for pleasure.
